The World’s Highest Potato Chips
What is the value of sending a bag of Kantefølflak to the top of the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest? As a straightforward sponsorship, where we helped support Frank Løke to the top, the calculation is simple, but values are not always measured in money.
The most valuable thing for us is that we can contribute to a slightly better day – whether it’s a crunchy reward at the top of a mountain, inspiring people to experience nature for themselves, or contributing to diversity where you buy snacks.
In both bag and pack – together for little heroes
This summer, during Frank Løke’s book launch, we had the chance to contribute to something bigger than ourselves. After the signing, Frank pulled me aside and showed me a gift he had saved.
Out came a half-flattened bag of potato chips.
- Look here. This one made it to the top and back.
When Frank was set to climb Mount Everest, we were lucky enough to be part of it as a sponsor. We expressed our wish for Tyting and Rømme to be the bag eaten at the top of the world’s highest mountain. After all, we had already conquered K2 with another flavor, Fjellsalt, a couple of years earlier. That time, too, with Frank.
When we wanted to show the world our position, it was obvious that we had to take the most special flavor – Tyttebær and Rømme. Both bags reached the top, and we thank the patient sherpas and Frank for that!
Electronics and extreme conditions are not always the best combination. 15 m/s winds and -40°C have their effect. But we were lucky enough to get a video of the Fjellsalt bag at the top. One of the sherpas filmed while another ate chips as if it were an ordinary Norwegian summer. Frank managed to say "Best chips ever" before the batteries, technology, and safety regulations had to give in. The Tyting bag stayed in the pack, but luckily it made it back to Norway after having been at 8849 meters.
Later, we decided to donate this unique bag to a charitable cause. It was displayed as a small piece of art at our office at Torpomoen until this fall. The exhibit has received much attention – after all, it’s "gold," signed by Frank Løke.
When every penny counts
NRK’s TV fundraiser picked up on the idea that this bag could contribute to this year’s campaign for the Children’s Cancer Association.
When the bag was listed on auksjonen.no (for the TV fundraiser), it initially looked like it would go for somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 kroner. A fantastic contribution to an important cause. But then the bids skyrocketed.
The final bid landed at NOK 100,000,-
Absolutely incredible! Thank you to everyone who followed the bidding.
We are very proud to be able to contribute to our little heroes.
