Do you knit? There’s a special knitting pattern for mountain folks. The Kantefølhuva is a hat designed for the coldest days in the mountains, and when you want to add a little extra flair in town.

A brief backstory: My family consists of craftsmen, creative souls, and teachers. From this mix of people, my niece Anne emerged. She was born in the year of our Lord 1997. Cold ears? Not if Anne has a say in it.

Knitting pattern for the mountaineer

Yes, a knitting pattern for the mountaineer is indeed a thing. Anne is the daughter of a teacher and a mechanic. She inherited some creative genes in life. When we include her brother, Olav, in this little family saga, we’re talking about a small family that is no stranger to either two wheels in hairpin turns or snowshoeing in -25°C.

When Anne's grandmother on one side, and grandmother on the other side, both emphasized knitting over the iPad during mandatory babysitting since childhood, the result is Ann.e.leis.

Anneleis received an order for the Kantefølhuva from her uncle (yours truly). Whether it was a formal order or just a quick comment at a family gathering is uncertain.

Shortly after, I received the following email, consisting of 3 words and 2 pictures:

Here's the pattern

Be creative and play with it!

From this pattern, the aforementioned Gommo (grandmother) has knitted (many) hats, but also headbands, sweaters, and maybe even socks, for all I know. Use the pattern as a starting point. Play with colors and expression. Anne would love it if you tag @ann.e.leis when you post a picture of your creation on Instagram.

PS. Of course, we would also love it if you add @kantefolflak or #chipsforfjellfolk in the same Instagram post. But the most important thing is that you don't get cold ears.

Good luck!
